Frequently asked questions
Is this the official Australian citizenship test?
No. This is an independent practice resource. The questions are written to match the style and content of the real test, but they are not the official test questions. The Department of Home Affairs also offers an official practice test, linked above.
How does the real citizenship test work?
The test has 20 multiple choice questions and you have 45 minutes to complete it. To pass you need at least 75% (15 out of 20) overall, and you must answer all 5 Australian values questions correctly. Rules can change, so check the Home Affairs website before your test.
What should I study?
The test is based on the testable section of Australian Citizenship: Our Common Bond: Part 1 (Australia and its people), Part 2 (Australia's democratic beliefs, rights and liberties), Part 3 (Government and the law in Australia) and Part 4 (Australian values). Every question here references the part of the booklet it comes from, and each wrong answer comes with an explanation.
Are the 20 tests always the same?
Yes. Each test always has the same 20 questions (15 general questions, then 5 Australian values questions), so you can retake a test and see whether you've improved. Questions are spread across the tests so that any two tests overlap only a little.
Do I need an account?
No. You can use every test without signing up, and your results are saved in your browser. If you'd like to keep your results safe or use them on another device, you can create a free account at any time and the progress you've already made will be kept.
Is it free?
Yes. The site is supported by advertising. Ads are never shown while you're taking a test.
